Join us in Kohala on Tuesday, June 11th, as we honor the legacy of King Kamehameha I in the place of his birth. The day begins with a traditional Hawaiian sunrise protocol and lei draping ceremony at the Kamehameha statue, followed by the entrance of the royal court and royal societies.
At 9:00 AM, Akoni Pule Highway closes for our vibrant floral parade, a breathtaking display of culture and community spirit.
Then head over to Kamehameha Park for a festive Ho’olaule‘a, featuring live Hawaiian music, local food vendors, arts, crafts, and more. It’s a day of tradition, pride, and aloha. We’ll see you in Kohala! Driving directions Getting to Kohala from Kona Drive north on Queen Ka'ahumanu Hwy (19) to Kawaihae Road intersection. Turn left after 1 mile, veer right onto Hwy 270 (Akoni Pule Highway) for the 20-mile coast drive to Hawi and Kapa'au. Getting to Kohala from Hilo Drive north on the Mamalahoa Hwy (19) through Waimea.
