The island of Hawai’i also know as the Big Island is the youngest of the islands covering 4,028 square miles which also makes it the largest. There are twelve distinct climate zones ranging from Mauna Kea,the tallest mountain below sea level to east Hawai’i tropical rainforest. Near Kona you can relax on the beach or go snorkeling at night with the manta rays, while on the east side in Hilo take a hike in the rain forest, botanical gardens and waterfalls.

The Perfect Surrounding

Besides the climate zones and active volcano, Hawai’i has great points of interest. Waimea’s Parker Ranch was the largest privately owned cattle ranch in the world, and ranching and agriculture continue to be the Big Island’s economic mainstays — particularly beef, Kona coffee, macadamia nuts, fruits and tropical flowers. Resorts and most residential developments are located in coastal areas such as Hilo, Kailua-Kona, and the Kohala Coast, leaving much of island’s interior untouched.

Adventure Awaits

Hawai’i is made up of five volcanos,  two of which are still active in which it continues to grow. Kilauea is the longest continuously erupting volcano in the world, its present eruptive phase dating back to 1983. Meanwhile Mauna Loa last erupted in March of 1984, sending lava a few miles of east Hawai’i  “Hilo”. Mauna Kea and Kohala are both extinct, while Hualalai is considered to be dormant having last erupted back in 1801.
